Bloomington Center for the Arts
The city's arts centre, sharing a campus with City Hall and home to community theatre, exhibitions and classes.

The place
The Bloomington Center for the Arts sits alongside City Hall on the Civic Plaza, off West Old Shakopee Road. The building houses theatre spaces, gallery space and classrooms, and it is home to Artistry, the nonprofit organisation that produces theatre and runs visual arts programmes in the city.
Events and programmes
The centre's calendar typically includes community and professional theatre productions, gallery exhibitions, art classes for adults and young people, and special events. The Inez Greenberg Gallery presents rotating exhibitions. Productions and classes run in seasons, so check the current programme for what is on.

History in brief
The arts centre opened in the early 2000s as part of the redevelopment of Bloomington's civic campus, bringing the city's theatre and visual arts groups under one roof next to the seat of local government. The resident organisations later joined to form Artistry.
Visiting with mobility equipment
As a modern civic building, the centre was designed with accessibility in mind, but individual needs vary. For performances, ask the box office about wheelchair spaces, companion seating, the route from the drop-off point and whether assistive listening devices are available. For classes, it is worth asking about seating and table heights in advance.
Good to know
- The plaza between City Hall and the arts centre is a pleasant, level space for a short walk before or after a show.
- Evening performances can mean darker car parks: plan where to park and bring a torch if needed.
- Gallery visits are a good low-key outing for someone who tires quickly.
